The definition of complacency is "a feeling of contentment or self-satisfaction, especially when coupled with an unawareness of danger, trouble or controversy". When a person becomes complacent, they don't feel the need to continue doing their normal or required routine because everything to them is "fine" so they aren't prepared for those times when problems arise. An example of this is when a person becomes complacent in their marriage and stops cultivating the relationship. What usually happens? This person is surprised or confused when their relationship with their spouse falls apart of fails completely. Complacency never works in a marriage or in our every day lives. Sadly, we see it in our churches! Why do we become so complacent in our pews even when we do see the danger, trouble or controversy rising up? Is God pleased with this? A resounding NO! should be heard from all around the amen corners! Complacency leads to destruction and death....God is Life! Don't let your spiritual life become complacent! God's word talks about complacency. Proverbs 1:32 (NKJV) says "for the turning away of the simple will slay them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them." So what should we do? The Word says in 2 Corinthians 13:5 to "Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?" Ask yourself "Am I a true Christian, or am I a counterfeit? Have I truly been born again, or am I only putting up a front?" Am I doing what God called me to do? Praying, reading/studying the Bible, praising Him that fearfully and wonderfully made me? Am I just going through the motions day in day out? These may be hard questions to ask yourself, but they should be answered honestly. God is looking for His chosen people - those that are in this world, but not of it. We can no longer be complacent! This country is spiraling down at an ever increasing speed! What are we doing to change this? Do we sit on the pews and twiddle our thumbs waiting on someone else? Or will we be the ones to stand up and take the charge to the front lines?
