Did you know that today is National Family Day? It's a national movement to celebrate parental engagement as an effective tool to help keep America's kids substance free. Hopefully, most of us don't wait around till this one day a year to spend time with our children, but it is a nice thought that this is being encouraged. However, this shouldn't be just about keeping them drug free. Engaging in your child's life is important on many levels...socially, mentally and spiritually. One of the easiest ways to do this is by having regular family meals together. Plan a meal, let the children help prepare it and then spend some good quality time talking, laughing and just enjoying your time together while eating. It doesn't matter what you're eating or even where you're eating, as long as you're together as a family. The Bible refers to this very thing.
"Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith." Proverbs 15:17
In our hectic world, it would do us all some good to stop, take a breath and spend some quality time with our families, even if you have to set aside just one day or one meal to do so!
